Match the file to the profile
To install The Sift mod, choose the author, Minecraft version, loader, and release file together. Here the worked example is Mielon’s 1.1.0 release for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, file ID 9011966. Its Mielon 1.1.0 NeoForge release identifies that combination.
For that version, the Mielon’s The Sift requirements lists NeoForge 21.1.62+ and GeckoLib 4.6.6+.
Install in a separate profile
1. Preserve your existing setup
Close the game and make a backup of any world you intend to use. Create a separate modded profile with the selected Minecraft version and loader. Give it a descriptive name so you do not accidentally reopen the vanilla profile.
2. Add the matching files
Download the chosen release and its required dependencies from their publisher pages. Put Java mod files in that profile’s mods directory; a launcher-managed installation may handle this step for you. Avoid leaving multiple versions of the same mod in the folder.
Compare each dependency’s own game and loader compatibility with the profile. A higher version number alone is not a compatibility rule. Use the file checker to inspect a selected package, then compare its findings with the author’s release record.
3. Launch a disposable world
Start the intended profile and confirm that it loads before opening a valued save. Once installation works, move to the entrance guide. Keep installation errors separate from a portal that has not yet been activated.

If the loader names a missing dependency, resolve that named requirement first. If it reports incompatible versions, read the versions in the message before changing unrelated settings. Keep the original error text for a targeted search.
