Minecraft Dungeons 2 status effects are temporary positive or negative conditions. Read their icons at the bottom of the HUD: upward-pointing shapes are positive, downward-pointing shapes are negative, and the shrinking surrounding bar shows remaining duration.
Read positive and negative status icons
Different statuses can affect the same mob at once. Track each icon’s countdown independently.
Enemy attacks, artifacts, environmental hazards and enchantments can apply statuses. Connect the new icon with the attack or activation you just saw.
Burned, Frozen, Soulsick and Zapped at a glance
The durations below belong to the listed causes. A boss’s timer does not set the duration of every weapon or enchantment applying that status.
| Status | What changes | Recorded cause | Duration for that cause |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burned | Fire damage reduces health over time | Flame Construct; Soul Corrupted mob with the Burned property | 4 seconds for either listed cause |
| Frozen | Attack speed and movement speed decrease | Frost Crescent; Blizzard Bangle lets weapon hits apply it | Frost Crescent’s duration is unspecified; no duration given in the Bangle entry |
| Soulsick | Soul fire reduces health; heroes additionally lose souls | Twisted Warden | 5 seconds |
| Zapped | Movement speed increases and incoming damage increases | Copper Monstrosity; Lightning Surge | 10 seconds from Copper Monstrosity; Lightning Surge’s duration is unspecified |
Burned and Soulsick affect different resources
Soulsick on a hero also depletes souls, at the same rate described by its status record. That loss can leave a ready artifact unaffordable.
The Twisted Warden guide shows the fight behind the five-second Soulsick entry. Lullaby Blade applies Soulsick to enemies through its fixed Soul Cursed effect. Using the weapon does not mean your hero receives that status, and the Warden’s five-second duration is not a timer for Lullaby Blade.
Frozen and Zapped change an enemy’s pace differently
Frozen slows both attacks and movement. Zapped increases movement speed while making the affected mob take more damage. A zapped enemy closing distance more quickly fits that trade-off; it is not the slowing behavior described by Frozen.
For a status-focused build, compare Frost Crescent with Lightning Surge. Both trigger waves through jump attacks and final hits; their statuses change movement differently.
Shadowcloaking and the next attack
Shadowcloaking makes you undetectable to mobs and makes the next attack a critical hit. The status ends on the next attack or artifact use. Ender Fog applies it for eight seconds; that eight-second value belongs to Ender Fog’s cause entry.
Use the countdown to judge your opening. If you activate another artifact before attacking, its use ends the cloak. If you attack first, the normal ending condition applies to that attack. The armor effect Assassin adds a chance to stay shadowcloaked when attacking, so read that specific property when comparing a cloak-focused loadout.
Three similar names appear on gear. Shadowcloaking is this temporary status. Shadowcloak is a melee enchantment triggered by defeating a mob. Shadowclaw is the fixed effect named on Sculker Claws. Use the enchantment guide for the trigger and upgrade context rather than treating the names as one interchangeable enchantment.
How gear applies and changes statuses
Gear can supply a status or change how it behaves. Check the trigger and the target before comparing percentages.
| Gear or property | Relationship to statuses | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Blizzard Bangle | Grants a hero status enabling weapon hits to apply Frozen | Active artifact slot and soul cost |
| Frost Crescent | Jump attacks and final hits produce an ice wave applying Frozen | Wave damage and the slower target |
| Lightning Surge | Jump attacks and final hits produce a lightning wave applying Zapped | Wave damage and the faster, more vulnerable target |
| Lullaby Blade’s Soul Cursed | Applies Soulsick to enemies on hit | Fixed weapon effect |
| Resilience | Faster recovery from negative statuses | Your armor’s recovery property |
| Tainted | Longer negative statuses on enemies | Duration support on equipped armor |
| Ally | Longer positive statuses you apply to yourself and allies | Applied buff duration |
Frost Crescent’s wave deals 10%, 15% or 20% of weapon damage at tiers I–III. Lightning Surge’s wave deals 60%, 75% or 90%. Those are wave-damage figures; they do not supply status durations or a total weapon damage ranking.
The Sculker and Monarch armor comparison connects recovery and damage conditions to individual equipment. For active status sources, check artifacts. A Sift tide changes the surrounding combat conditions; it has its own rules in the tides guide.
Repeated applications and old status names
A repeated application of the same active status is ignored. It does not add another copy or refresh the existing duration under the Status record’s rule. The shrinking bar remains your timing cue; repeated hits alone are not evidence that the current timer has restarted.
Older labels can appear in descriptions and links. Burning → Burned, Freezing → Frozen, and Conductive → Zapped are the corresponding name redirects. Read the current name together with its effect when matching an older tooltip to the table.
Frozen is also the name of an undead melee creature in Frozen Highlands. The creature and the slowing status are separate entries. A line saying a target is Frozen can describe its condition without identifying which species it is.
Use the Dungeons II overview to find its weapon, artifact or encounter.
Common questions
Do repeated status applications refresh the timer?
No. The Status record says an application of a status the target already has is ignored. Different statuses can coexist.
Why am I losing souls while taking damage?
Soulsick drains both health and souls when it affects a hero. Burned’s listed effect is fire damage to health over time.
Does Zapped slow enemies?
No. Zapped increases movement speed and incoming damage. Frozen slows movement and attacks.
What ends Shadowcloaking?
Attacking or using an artifact ends it. Assassin provides a specific chance to remain shadowcloaked when attacking.
