Minecraft Dungeons 2 Artifacts

Artifacts spend souls to activate a combat ability. Start with one slot, unlock two more at levels 5 and 10, and choose between attack speed, enemy statuses, projectile protection and stealth.

When Minecraft Dungeons 2 artifacts gray out, your soul reserve is below the activation cost. Check the item’s cost before swapping it for a different ability.

How artifact slots, souls and cooldowns work

An artifact can harm enemies, apply a status or summon a pet. Its soul cost comes from the item: two equipped artifacts need not require the same amount. Activation triggers the ability, instantly or over a duration, before the artifact goes on cooldown.

When an ability is unavailable, check these three things in order:

  1. Slot: Is the artifact equipped in an unlocked slot?
  2. Souls: Does your reserve meet its activation cost? Insufficient souls gray out the icon.
  3. Cooldown: Has the previous activation finished recovering?

A larger soul reserve and a shorter cooldown solve different bottlenecks. The armor effect Spiritual increases soul capacity; Cooldown reduces artifact cooldown time. Neither description promises faster soul gain. Use the armor comparison to check each piece’s compatible effects and the talismans guide for passive soul or cooldown support.

Talismans supply passive bonuses or companions while equipped. Artifacts supply abilities you activate. Keeping those roles separate helps you understand why a passive item does not appear as another combat button.

Choose an artifact for the next fight

Start with the situation that makes you stop attacking or spend an extra healing resource. A melee speed option, an enemy slow, a projectile response and a stealth opener change different parts of that situation.

Artifact Combat role Soul cost
Fighting Fungus Increased attack speed —
Death Cap Mushroom Increased attack and movement speed 20
Blizzard Bangle Weapon hits apply Frozen during its granted status 35
Echo Ocarina Eight-second projectile-deflection status 40
Ender Fog Shadowcloaking for a stealth opening 20

For an early hero, the single available slot makes this choice especially direct. At three slots, compare the roles across the whole set. Reserving souls for protection changes how much you can spend on an attack-speed window.

Fighting Fungus and attack-speed options

Fighting Fungus increases attack speed. Death Cap Mushroom’s description adds movement speed as well as attack speed. That makes movement the first useful distinction when comparing the two descriptions for a melee setup.

Death Cap Mushroom costs 20 souls, and its area listing includes Howling Woods. Its item record also describes an interrupted eating-animation bug: the icon can continue flashing red after cooldown. Unequipping and re-equipping the artifact is the recorded workaround. If that happens during a fast claw sequence, distinguish it from ordinary insufficient souls or a recovering ability.

For a damage-window example with a filmed inventory, use the twelve-slot build guide. Its Fighter’s Flute, Warrior Drums and Warding Chimes serve critical hits and protection; swapping one for a mushroom changes that role. Compare your replacement rather than counting the removed artifact’s benefit in the new loadout.

Pouch of Poison in the artifact catalogue

Pouch of Poison is an artifact. Find it among the pouch entries above when checking an unfamiliar inventory name. The current individual record supplies its equipment category; it does not supply a poison strength, duration, soul cost or acquisition route. Those fields belong to the item’s tooltip when comparing your own drop.

Blizzard Bangle, Echo Ocarina and Ender Fog

Blizzard Bangle grants your hero a status that lets weapon attacks apply Frozen, slowing enemies’ attacks and movement. Choose it for that enemy-status role, then compare armor properties that extend negative statuses or benefit from an affected enemy. The status effects guide connects Frozen with its older name, Freezing.

Echo Ocarina grants eight seconds of projectile deflection. Deflected projectiles can potentially damage mobs. Its 40-soul cost buys a response to ranged pressure; it is a different choice from slowing a nearby enemy’s weapon swings.

Ender Fog grants Shadowcloaking, with an eight-second duration recorded for this source. Your next attack is critical, and attacking or using an artifact ends the status. Decide whether you want that opening before activating another ability: the invisibility does not remain through a normal follow-up artifact use.

Using artifacts during Sift tides

During Endure, stronger mobs spawn and passive soul regeneration stops. Waiting for cooldown alone will not refill the souls needed for another activation. During Thrive, soul regeneration and artifact recovery become faster. Read the Sift tide guide before planning repeated ability use.

Enter a difficult encounter with a reserve for the ability that keeps the attempt going. If your chosen setup spends souls on offense and projectile protection, check both costs before committing. Spiritual’s larger capacity helps hold a reserve; a recovery effect and Cooldown address different parts of the cycle. Return to the Dungeons II equipment overview to compare the rest of your loadout.

Common questions

Why is my artifact grayed out?

Your souls are below its minimum activation cost. Check the soul reserve separately from the artifact’s cooldown.

When do I unlock all three artifact slots?

You start with one slot, gain the second at level 5 and the third at level 10.

Are artifacts the same as talismans?

Artifacts are abilities you activate with souls. Talismans provide passive bonuses or companions while equipped.
