Choose the build around your soul supply
Pair Fighter’s Flute with Warrior Drums for critical-hit damage, and keep souls available for Warding Chimes. That is the central combination in Mattitude’s Awesomeaxe Minecraft Dungeons 2 build. The table below shows the equipment supporting those three artifacts.
The example comes from Mattitude and The Dungeon Fish’s September 29, 2026 boss-session video. The equipment belongs to Mattitude’s opening inventory; the setup checks below are our suggestions based on its item effects.
What the inventory snapshot establishes
The opening inventory shows hero level 86 and item power 119, with twelve equipped slots. Those are the example hero’s values, not minimum requirements for trying the combination.
The storefront, exact executable version and difficulty are unconfirmed, and this site has not tested the build in-game. Use the snapshot to compare equipment; check its performance in your own game before relying on it for a difficult fight.
Mattitude’s twelve-slot opening loadout
Read power and enchantment tier separately. The entries below come from the inventory walkthrough at 2:42–4:48. Weapon, armor and artifact modifiers belong to the displayed items; another drop with the same name can have different rolls. For talismans, the video shows icons and tiers; their names and general roles are matched to the catalogue linked below.
| Slot | Equipped item and power | Enchantment, captured modifiers or talisman role |
|---|---|---|
| Melee | Awesomeaxe, 128 | Lightning Surge III: wave at 90% weapon damage; 70% chance to grant Strength on hit; critical damage +10%. |
| Ranged | Shooting Star, 125 | Shielding Smite II: kills have a 20% chance to create a Fortifying well; 20% melee evasion; damage to wounded enemies +30%. A further critical-damage line is partly clipped. |
| Helmet | Hivemind Hardhat, 125 | Somersault I: one extra roll; positive statuses applied to yourself/allies last 70% longer; negative statuses on enemies last 40% longer. |
| Chestplate | Twisted Warden Vest, 124 | Somersault II: two extra rolls; 20% melee evasion; 10% projectile deflection. |
| Leggings | Rimefrost Longjohns, 119 | Ancient Alchemy III: 60 souls per potion; melee damage to secondary targets +50%; artifact cooldown −20%; soul capacity +30%. |
| Boots | Monstrosity Stompers, 119 | Ancient Alchemy III: 60 souls per potion; melee critical damage +45%; soul capacity +25%. |
| Artifact 1 | Warrior Drums, 108 | Doubles critical-hit damage while active; displayed cost 45 souls/cooldown 5; cooldown modifier −20%, soul capacity +30%. No enchantment displayed. |
| Artifact 2 | Fighter’s Flute, 123 | Grants critical striking; displayed cost 45 souls/cooldown 5; soul capacity +35%, cooldown −15%, positive-status duration +30%. No enchantment displayed. |
| Artifact 3 | Warding Chimes, 101 | Temporary protection; displayed cost 40 souls/cooldown 15; cooldown modifier −20%. No enchantment displayed. |
| Talisman 1 | Sigil of Beeswax, III | Maximum-health support; no enchantment displayed. |
| Talisman 2 | Fist of Iron, III | Melee-damage support; no enchantment displayed. |

The talisman icons and III markers are visible in the inventory. Their names and general roles match the named icon catalogue; the table leaves out numerical talisman effects that the hero’s inventory does not show.
Run the critical-hit cycle
Our suggested starting sequence is to activate the Flute and Drums for a melee damage window while keeping souls available for Chimes. The inventory gives each artifact a different role: Flute grants critical striking, Drums increases critical-hit damage, and Chimes supplies temporary protection. Check that all three are equipped before copying the sequence.
Start in a familiar encounter and watch your soul reserve, artifact cooldowns and health. If you can activate the damage artifacts but cannot afford Chimes when needed, adjust the timing or recovery support. Temporary protection still leaves you needing a plan for the intervals between activations.
Check potion recovery and buff duration
Mattitude’s leggings and boots each show Ancient Alchemy III with 60 souls per potion. Those two tooltips identify a recovery effect worth checking on your own gear; they do not, by themselves, prove the combined gain from one potion. Observe the soul counter before and after use instead of assuming a stacking rule from the arithmetic.
The Hivemind Hardhat also displays longer positive-status duration, and the Flute has a duration modifier of its own. When changing either item, compare the effects you lose as well as the power you gain. A replacement helmet’s critical-damage bonus and the old helmet’s duration benefit should not be counted together after the old one is unequipped.
Assemble it from the gear you own
Compare your actual rolls with the table before replacing a working item. Use the weapon guide for base/Unique identities and Blacksmith upgrades, the four armor slots for slot checks, and the talismans guide for passive choices. These are acquisition and upgrade routes, not guaranteed drops for every named item.
Collect the required books and follow Training with the Enchantsmith to apply and upgrade the effects. Build the soul reserve, cooldown and recovery support before relying on repeated artifact activation. Then try the cycle in a manageable encounter before entering the Sift.
Is this the Minecraft Dungeons 2 best build?
It is a documented loadout for comparing critical-hit damage, temporary protection and soul recovery. A twelve-slot snapshot cannot rank every Minecraft Dungeons 2 build. Use it to identify the role each item serves, then assess the complete cycle with your own equipment and encounters.
