How to choose a weapon

Minecraft Dungeons 2 weapons differ in their attack pattern, power, and effects. You equip one in the melee slot and one in the ranged slot. The source list below groups the named base and unique weapons recorded in the current Wiki, rather than ranking every roll as a universal best weapon.

Choose a weapon by the job it needs to do. A melee combo can finish with a stronger final hit, while a bow or crossbow reaches a target from farther away. An effect can support souls, elemental attacks, movement, healing, or loot, so its usefulness depends on the rest of your build and the encounter.

Melee weapons and unique counterparts

The table follows Weapon revision 3813205, checked October 2, 2026. It pairs the named base weapon with its unique counterpart as shown in that record.

Read the combo before comparing damage

Melee weapons follow attack sequences when used in quick succession. The final attack in a combo deals that weapon’s maximum damage. Different combo lengths and movement needs make a single hit’s damage an incomplete comparison.

If your encounter repeatedly forces you out of close range, consider how much of the combo you can finish safely. A theoretical final-hit benefit is useful only when you can actually reach that hit. This is a comparison method, rather than a measured DPS ranking.

Ranged weapons and unique counterparts

Base ranged weapon Unique counterpart
Bow Ranger’s Promise
Greatbow Humbler Heartstring
Longbow Creaking’s Reach
Powerbow Paragon
Shortbow Shooting Star
Trickbow Phantom Wing
Crossbow The Shackler
Dual Crossbows Double Crossers
Heavy Crossbow The Close Ranger
Scatter Crossbow Harp Crossbow
Rapid Crossbow The Cross Pollinator

Bows, crossbows, and ammunition

Bows can release immediately or be charged by holding the ranged attack button before release. Crossbows do not charge in the same way; holding the attack fires repeatedly.

Ranged ammunition recharges automatically after you stop using the weapon for a short time. Each weapon has its own capacity, and an empty weapon needs to recharge before firing again. Watch the counter rather than reading “unlimited ammo” as permission to shoot continuously without recovery.

What makes a unique weapon unique

The Wiki describes unique items as having a fixed effect that cannot be rerolled. A base weapon’s random effect can be changed at a Blacksmith using Echo Shards. The fixed effect is part of the unique item’s identity, so the same item name and the same power level can still serve different goals from a base item.

Examples in the current source include Soul Reaper increasing souls gained, Sift Sickles improving healing given to you and allies, and Lunar Sickle increasing the chance to stagger enemies. These are item properties, rather than evidence that any one of them is the best weapon for every Sift boss.

Obtain and improve weapons

Weapons come from chests, defeated enemies, town merchants, and some quests. The Blacksmith can raise power using Emeralds, while random effect rerolls use Echo Shards. Dropped and upgraded power relates to the hero’s current level.

For the Sift entry route, the Deep Dark record lists several weapon types among its drops, including Axe, Double Daggers, Dual Crossbows, Mace, Pickaxe, Sabre, Scythe, Sword, and Trickbow. That is a regional list, not a guaranteed item after one specific fight.

After selecting a weapon, add a library effect with the Enchantsmith and check your talismans for the passive bonuses supporting it. Use Echo Shards to distinguish the spending options, or return to the Dungeons II overview.
