Recognize the ranged Sculker

Scavenger is the Sculker that throws explosive souls. The Scavenger record places natural appearances in The Carapace and also records summoned appearances in mini-boss and Monarch encounters.

Connect the cast, flight, and ground hazard

The Scavenger’s magic-lit hands identify the caster before the projectiles leave it. Two soul projectiles lock onto heroes and fly toward them, followed by explosions and pools of soul fire. The attack therefore occupies several parts of the scene over time: the original casting position, the incoming flight paths, and the ground affected by impact.

For a practical read, follow one soul all the way through impact before deciding what remains dangerous around the landing point. A burst and a remaining pool belong to the same recorded action. If the caster has already moved away, the pool still helps explain where that earlier projectile landed.

Recognize a retreat rather than knockback

The source describes the Scavenger dashing backward when approached and leaving golden afterimages. Pollinator instead stays its ground when a hero approaches. That is a different cue from Hurler, which is pushed backward when attacked. Check whether the movement follows your approach or a hit, and look for the soul-casting animation to confirm the creature.

This retreat also contrasts with the forward pressure of a Stalker. Stalker draws back its arms before lunging into the fight; Scavenger creates distance. In a mixed group, their opposing movements are useful for keeping the melee and ranged roles separate.

Expect a supporting role in boss fights

Both the Monarch record and Dartback record describe summons containing two Scavengers and two Stalkers. Scavenger also appears naturally in The Carapace. Use the region guide for navigation and the corresponding boss guide for the larger encounter.

When the boss, a pair of claw attackers, and flying souls are all active, attribute each effect before changing targets. The boss’s own movement, the Stalker’s dash, and the Scavenger’s residual fire are different events. This creature’s particular contribution is the ranged attack that continues into a ground effect, combined with a retreat that can move the caster away from the place where the attack began.
