Why the High Council entered The Sift

The Sift supplies the souls and resources the Illager High Council uses to threaten the Overworld. Its three leaders are the Supreme Evoker, Prime Enchanter, and Grand Illusioner. They are invaders and visitors to this dimension, rather than a native species of Sift creature.

The character Wiki pages connect their origins to the former Arch-Illager’s army and to the companion novel Minecraft Dungeons II: The Rift. The campaign then turns that background into the crisis your hero investigates.

Soul blocks change the balance of power

The Supreme Evoker’s biography describes the discovery of an Ancient City, a discarded note block that affected a nearby monument, and a jury-rigged portal. When Echo Golems emerged, the future High Council stole their soul blocks. The Evoker used the new power to manifest armor.

A soul block is therefore more than a gate key in this story. It carries a golem’s life force and powers the leaders’ abilities. Theft leaves the golems without what makes them active, which is why recovering stolen souls is a meaningful objective in Lullaby Hills.

The Supreme Evoker uses soul energy to control soul-corrupted forces. The Prime Enchanter carries a soul block in their hat and has enhanced enchanting powers. Their equipment and abilities share a resource origin, while their campaign encounters take place in different locations.

The Grand Illusioner connects the worlds

The Grand Illusioner powers a staff with a soul block to create dimensional rifts. In The Rift, the staff is stolen and later recovered, and it is used to move the High Council and its army back to The Sift.

That explains why a rift can appear away from the Ancient City’s fixed portal. A story rift and the Deep Dark portal are related ways to cross dimensions, but they are not the same structure. For the hero’s campaign access, use how to enter The Sift.

What the invasion does to the dimension

The Sift’s current Wiki overview describes Illagers invading to exploit resources and souls. The local quests put that invasion beside individual residents: Illager camps disturb Echo Golems in Echo Den, and stolen soul blocks prevent the Lullaby Hills golems from singing together.

The setting also distinguishes healthy sculk in The Sift from corrupted sculk. The source attributes corrupted sculk to a disease originating in the dimension; it does not mean all sculk there is diseased. Healthy growth remains part of its environment.

The construct at the end of the campaign

Ending spoilers follow. The High Council’s Monstrous Opus is a constructed final boss, powered with souls and ichor taken from The Sift. The campaign places its final confrontation in the Deep Dark after the Supreme Evoker.

The resource connection explains why it belongs in the Sift’s story, while its arena and constructed origin explain why it should not be listed as a native Sift animal. The Grand Illusioner survives the main story in the current character account and vows to continue the High Council’s campaign.
