Identify the support creature

Sprout is a tentacled support Sifter found on the Sift’s surface. The Sprout record lists Floaty Sentinel as a development name. Its role is to support nearby enemies rather than simply repeat a melee Sifter’s approach.

Read the two ends of the support beam

A buffing Sprout gives you a source, a connection, and a recipient to identify. The Sprout is the creature that has stopped moving and is rapidly changing color. The beam leads to a nearby enemy; that target flashes yellow. Following the whole connection helps when several glowing creatures occupy the same part of the screen.

The preparation matters too. Charging and retracting the tendrils precede the beam, so the support action has a visible start. The Wiki describes Pollinators as the preferred recipients. In a group containing a Pollinator and several other Sifters, check the frog-like ranged enemy first when tracing where the beam ends.

Interrupting a cast and killing the caster have different results

Hitting the Sprout cancels its active beam. Killing it triggers a separate effect on nearby Sifters. These mechanics create two different outcomes from an attack on the same creature: a cast can stop, and a death can strengthen the surrounding group.

As an encounter-reading tip, watch the recipient when a beam stops, then look at the rest of the group if the Sprout dies. That sequence distinguishes the end of one support connection from the beginning of an enrage effect. A single bright frame can hide the difference; the order of events makes it clear.

What changes when nearby Sifters become enraged

The recorded death effect increases speed, damage, and HP for nearby Sifters, including other Sprouts. Its impact therefore reaches beyond the creature currently receiving a beam. A Nester closing into melee and a Sentinel firing from farther away can belong to the same surrounding Sifter group.

This is why a simple “always eliminate the support first” rule misses part of the Sprout’s behavior. The useful decision is local: identify the beam you want to interrupt, the creatures near the Sprout, and the effect that a killing blow will trigger. The record supplies the relationship, while your encounter determines which enemies are nearby.

Compare Sprout with Harmonizer

Harmonizer is a massive Sprout-related mini-boss, but its behavior needs its own reading. It roars with a circular shockwave, summons allies, links to them with buffing beams, and can attempt a tentacle grab. The resemblance explains the shared support theme without making the two enemies interchangeable.

In particular, the Sprout entry says a hit cancels its beam. The Harmonizer entry describes severing its beams by killing the linked enemy or the mini-boss. Use the rule belonging to the creature you are facing. The smaller Sprout’s interruption behavior is not a universal instruction for every beam in the Sift.

Follow the name and appearance

The Sifter index identifies Sprout as the squid-like support member of the family. Floaty Sentinel is its development name. The Wiki also connects the present name to merchandise and the Tendrils of the Sprout talisman, while its turquoise glow and tentacle description are attributed to The Rift novel.

Those sources help with different identification tasks. The family index and gameplay behavior explain the enemy’s support role. The old label helps locate earlier promotional material. The novel supplies descriptive lore. For the next encounter, concentrate on the tendrils, the beam’s destination, and the difference between an interrupted cast and a death-triggered group effect.
