Recognize the crested ranged Sifter
Sentinel is the Sifter that fires a barrage of darts. The Sentinel record places it on the Sift’s surface and records Crested Sentinel as its development name. Its attack gallery includes a close view of the creature and a firing pose.
Read the barrage as a changing pattern
The Sentinel’s side-to-side head-shaking movement marks the start of the barrage. The darts first turn toward the nearest hero. Once their direction is set, they fly straight. Those two phases explain why the attack can initially appear to follow a player but then continue along established lines through the scene.
For a practical encounter read, watch the head movement, identify the initial turn, and then follow the resulting flight paths. The nearest hero is the target identified by the record; in a group scene, do not assume every dart is tracking the character nearest the camera. The change from turning to straight flight is the key cue.
Use the recovery pause
The source explicitly describes a short idle period after the attack as an opening to hit the Sentinel. That gives an observable opportunity: look for the end of the head-shaking barrage and the creature’s pause. Use the visible end of the attack to recognize that opening.
The outgoing projectiles and the creature’s recovery are separate things to keep in view. A Sentinel standing still can be vulnerable while its earlier darts are still visible elsewhere in the scene. Following both the shooter and the projectiles makes the attack easier to understand.
Find its role in a larger Sifter encounter
Sentinels spawn on the Sift’s surface and are also among the possible allies summoned by Harmonizer. That record identifies Sentinels and Nesters as common members of its summon groups. The pairing puts a dart attacker alongside a creature that gallops into melee range.
A nearby Sprout supplies a different group interaction: its death enrages surrounding Sifters. The Sentinel gallery includes an enraged appearance as well as a Soul Corrupted example. Keep those scene and variant cues with the creature when comparing footage; a normal close-up alone does not describe every encounter state.
Resolve older Sentinel names
Crested Sentinel is this creature’s development name. Wild Sentinel refers to Nester, while Groobler Sentinel refers to Pollinator. The shared old word can obscure their very different attacks.
Use the crest, side-to-side head motion, and dart barrage to identify this entry. A long-legged bite sequence belongs to Nester, and a puffed-up glob launch belongs to Pollinator. The Sifter family guide brings those names together when you are matching an older screenshot or caption to the current roster.
