Recognize the long-legged melee Sifter

Nester is a hostile surface creature in Dungeons II’s Sift. The Sifter family index distinguishes its long-legged melee form from small Seedlings and ranged family members. The Nester record lists Wild Sentinel as its development codename.

Follow the full melee cycle

The Nester’s long legs and fast gallop make the approach conspicuous. Once close enough, the lunge carries into a bite; after attacking, it can remain near the hero while waiting for the next strike. Read those movements as one cycle. An enemy standing nearby after a bite is at a different point in the encounter from one that has not yet approached.

Its chance to dodge melee attacks adds a second movement to watch. The pounce is part of its offense, while a dodge responds to a melee attack. If you are reviewing footage to understand a missed hit, compare the timing of your swing with the Nester’s movement rather than treating every sideways or sudden motion as another bite.

Look beyond the nearest Nester

The entity gallery includes Nesters swarming a hero. The smaller Seedling is the other melee Sifter; a Pollinator instead attacks from range with globs. The Harmonizer record also names Nesters among its summoned allies and describes them as one of the more common members of those groups. A Nester can therefore be a surface enemy in its own right or part of a larger mini-boss encounter.

In a Sifter group, Sprout changes how the surrounding enemies behave. Its death enrages nearby Sifters, and the Nester gallery includes an enraged form. Watch the support creature and the group state together when a familiar Nester becomes part of a more aggressive scene. This relationship is more useful than judging the enemy only by its body size.

Match Wild Sentinel to the present name

The development label Wild Sentinel can be confusing because Sentinel is now the name of a separate ranged Sifter. Match the action before choosing a guide: the long-legged creature galloping into a bite is Nester; the crested creature shaking its head to release darts is Sentinel.

The Wiki’s history connects Nester’s name to an official action-figure listing, following earlier appearances in key art and gameplay imagery. That history helps reconcile older labels with current creature names. For the encounter itself, the important sequence remains approach, lunge and bite, then a pause with possible evasive movement. Use the family links to identify the ranged or support enemies beside it.
