Can you play Minecraft Dungeons 2 on Switch 2?
Yes. Minecraft Dungeons 2 has a Nintendo Switch 2 release, launched September 29, 2026. The Sift belongs to the base game’s adventure, so Deluxe is not an entrance requirement. Nintendo’s launch notice lists the standard game’s US regular price as $29.99, checked October 2, 2026; your regional eShop and checkout control the amount you pay.
Use the listing marked Nintendo Switch 2 when choosing that version. The original Switch also has its own release, explained in the Switch 1 guide. The two available versions do not establish identical graphics, frame rate or loading performance.
Published play modes and download size
Nintendo’s current Switch 2 listing gives these details:
| Feature | Nintendo’s listing |
|---|---|
| System | Nintendo Switch 2 |
| Single system | 1–4 players |
| Local wireless | 1–4 players |
| Online | 2–4 players |
| Play modes | Handheld, tabletop and TV |
| Download size | 6.0 GB on the UK listing checked October 2 |
| Controllers | One compatible controller per player |
Download size can change with updates and regional packages. Leave space for the current download shown by your console rather than treating the launch listing as a permanent storage requirement. The table describes published support, not a performance test by this site.
Set up couch or online co-op
For couch co-op, arrange the controllers before starting the session. Nintendo’s requirement is one compatible controller per player. A prelaunch community question about single horizontal Joy-Con support does not confirm that configuration; the listing does not name it as a supported layout. Do not assume a pair can be split into two working Dungeons 2 controllers.
For online co-op, Nintendo requires a Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online. The game supports crossplay with other platforms, and party codes are the practical way to coordinate a named group. See cross-platform multiplayer for the difference between shared-screen, online and mixed parties. The four-player limit counts heroes, including anyone sharing your local device.
If the group includes someone on PS5 or Xbox, their own platform’s online requirements still apply. Nintendo Switch Online supplies your Nintendo access; it does not supply your friend’s console subscription.
Saves: two different services
Nintendo’s product listing explicitly says the game does not support Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud backup. That is distinct from Dungeons 2’s online cross-progression.
Mojang says an online hero can be accessed on different platforms when the platform accounts are linked to the same Microsoft account. Offline and online heroes use separate modes. Keep the intended hero’s mode and linked account consistent when changing devices; a Nintendo cloud-backup assumption is not a substitute for those game-specific rules. Mojang's progression guide.
Choose the edition for your goal
Standard provides the base adventure. Deluxe adds cosmetics and access to two future DLC packs as released. Compare the edition contents before paying for extras: the Blub pet is a cosmetic companion, and owning Deluxe does not make a story entrance immediately available.
