Does Minecraft Dungeons 2 have crossplay?

Yes. Minecraft Dungeons 2 supports cross-platform multiplayer, with up to four heroes across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The official game name is Minecraft Dungeons II. You can form an online party, play together on one device, or combine local and online players in mixed co-op. Mojang documents these arrangements in its official co-op guide and game FAQ.

A party has four heroes in total. Two friends sharing your screen leave room for two more online heroes; four local heroes fill the party. Choose how many people will sit at each device before choosing an invitation method.

Join a friend with a party code

The host can share an eight-character party code containing letters and numbers. Other players use the game’s Join by party code option to enter that party, including a game already in progress. The code identifies the current party rather than granting a copy of the game. Mojang’s co-op instructions explain this method for players on different platforms.

Use a party code when your group already knows who will play. Matchmaking is a separate option: the game considers quest progress, region and character power when finding allies. If you are organizing a Sift trip, agree on the objective as well as the platform; joining a compatible party does not establish that every hero has completed the same story steps.

Cross-save and cross-progression

Online hero progression can follow you between platforms. Mojang says online heroes are stored on its backend and instructs players to link their platform accounts to the same Microsoft account. Sign into that account on the second platform to access the online hero. This is an explicit cross-progression statement, separate from the crossplay promise. Account linking does not give you a game license on every storefront. A Steam purchase and a PS5 purchase remain different access decisions. Xbox Play Anywhere has its own Xbox/Windows purchase rules, covered in the Xbox guide.

Online and offline are separate hero modes. Select online when creating the hero you intend to use in cross-platform online parties. Couch co-op is available in both modes. Do not assume an offline hero can later be transferred into online mode: the checked official article establishes separate modes, without describing a transfer procedure. Mojang describes the separation in its co-op guide.

Local co-op and console online requirements

Setup What to arrange
Couch co-op One device, compatible inputs for each local player, and access to the game
PC online party Game access, internet and the linked Microsoft account
Xbox online party Game access and the applicable Xbox online membership
PS5 online party Game access and PlayStation Plus
Switch or Switch 2 online party Game access, Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online

The PS5 store and Nintendo launch notice state their subscription requirements. These apply to online play; couch co-op is a separate feature.

Nintendo specifies one compatible controller per player. Its listing does not confirm that a single horizontal Joy-Con can supply all of Dungeons 2’s controls, so arrange compatible controllers before promising a four-player session. See the Switch 2 setup guide for the published requirements.

Plan the Sift outing

Start with the Dungeons 2 hub to keep the game and dimension context clear. Then choose your platform’s access route and create the correct hero mode. For an invitation or login failure, record the exact message before using the 0064 troubleshooting guide.
