Minecraft Dungeons 2 WASD Movement and Controls

Launch players report mouse movement without a native WASD option. A community WASD Controls mod by ewanhowell5195 adds camera-relative keyboard movement and requires Blueprint Loader. Controller recognition and P1 assignment need separate checks.

Does Minecraft Dungeons 2 have WASD movement?

Launch players report mouse movement without a native WASD option. The launch keyboard discussion records that PC complaint. It is player evidence, not a developer keybind specification. As checked October 2, 2026, the official material cited here does not announce a new native WASD setting.

There is a concrete community alternative: WASD Controls by ewanhowell5195, listed as version 1.3 when checked October 2. The author says it adds camera-relative WASD and removes click-to-move. This is a mod, not a hidden official menu option. Author's mod page.

What the community mod changes

The author describes walking relative to the camera, mouse clicks attacking toward the cursor, and a ground slam when clicking during a jump. S normally opens the multiplayer wheel, so the author tells players to rebind that action in the game’s controls settings. It also requires Blueprint Loader. Review the version’s notes and loader instructions before installing. An author’s description establishes what the mod intends to do; this site has not tested its compatibility with every storefront, game patch or multiplayer arrangement.

Author’s installation path

The author’s published steps are:

  1. Close the game, and fully close Minecraft Launcher if you use it.
  2. On Steam, use Manage → Browse local files, then open Dungeons/Content/Paks. For the default Launcher installation, the path is C:/XboxGames/Minecraft Dungeons II/Content/Dungeons/Content/Paks.
  3. Create ~mods inside Paks if needed.
  4. Extract the mod into a WASDControls folder inside ~mods.

The final folder is Paks/~mods/WASDControls. The author says uninstalling means deleting that WASDControls folder. Install the required loader according to its own instructions first. Author's install and uninstall instructions.

These paths apply to the PC mod. They are not instructions for altering a console edition. A custom Launcher install changes the outer game directory; find your chosen install location before creating folders.

Choose a control setup before the Sift

Our suggested check is to try your chosen input in an already familiar area. Confirm that walking, attacking, jumping, rolling and opening the multiplayer menu perform different actions as intended. If you use the mod, pay particular attention to the S-key conflict. Change one input setting at a time so you can tell what caused a different response.

If you prefer a controller, check the controller features on the current Steam listing for your device, then confirm that it controls the intended hero. Recognition, button prompts and player assignment are separate checks. For the platform setup, use the Steam guide.

FAQ: controller joins as player 2 instead of controlling P1

Why does my controller join as player 2 instead of controlling P1?

If the controller adds another hero while mouse and keyboard still control the first one, check player assignment in the local-party and input options. A Launcher player reports this behavior with an Xbox controller in the original keyboard/control discussion. It is a different problem from the controller not being detected.

Record your storefront, controller model, connection and game build before troubleshooting. No reliable P1 reassignment sequence has been reproduced here, and the report does not establish a universal Steam Input or controller-emulation fix. A wrong button prompt is also a separate symptom from controlling the wrong hero.

Use multiplayer and hero modes for party setup, then return to the Dungeons 2 hub or map route for the trip itself.
