Which Minecraft Dungeons 2 difficulty should you choose?
Start with Normal, or lower the setting to Easy if fights repeatedly stop your exploration. ESRB contributor Brandy Berthelson’s October 1 firsthand guide identifies Normal as the default and confirms switching to Easy. She also notes that solo heroes can be heavily outnumbered and that Easy retains some challenge. ESRB's Dungeons 2 guide.
For a first Sift trip, our recommendation is to choose the setting that lets you learn enemy attacks and continue the quest. Repeated failed fights are useful information: review your equipped armor and the attack that defeats you, then decide whether to lower the setting.
Easy, Normal and the reported Hard option
| Setting | What the checked sources establish |
|---|---|
| Easy | Available as a lower setting; confirmed in ESRB’s firsthand guide |
| Normal | Default; confirmed in ESRB’s firsthand guide |
| Hard | Named in a player’s difficulty feedback; availability for a new hero and unlock conditions await confirmation |
Inspect the difficulty choices your current game presents. If Hard appears locked, use the game’s displayed requirement; this page has no verified unlock quest, level threshold or platform-by-platform button sequence. Do not import a menu path or Apocalypse unlock rule from the original Dungeons.
Difficulty setting and progression changes
If your game displays a progression or milestone message, read its wording separately from the selected difficulty. A notice about a story milestone does not tell you what switching the menu setting changes.
Before changing a setting in co-op, check with the party and read any confirmation shown by the game.
Prepare for a difficult encounter
Use the source of the failure to choose your next action:
- If groups overwhelm you, try a lower setting while learning how to move out of attacks.
- If the same boss attack defeats you, watch for its cue and change your response instead of only chasing a larger item number.
- If you are joining another party, agree on the goal and challenge before entering the fight.
Practice jumping and rolling between fights so movement is familiar when an attack begins. Mojang explains both in its Minecraft Dungeons II Gameplay Systems.
Review the four armor slots and your actual item effects before the next run. Use multiplayer if you want allies, and the Dungeons 2 hub for the Sift context.
